KINSHIP MENTORING PROGRAM

Northern Cass Kinship is a mentoring program serving families in the WHA school district, providing positive role models to youth age 5 to 15.

Mentoring friendships lead youth to have:

  • a positive attitude and self-image
  • values that lead to making good decisions
  • increased commitment to learning

HOWA offers 3 mentoring models:

Community Based Mentoring:
An adult volunteer is matched with a child who has common interests. The partners are encouraged to spend time together each week either after school or on the week-ends. Swimming, fishing, going to the library, shopping, biking, crafting or sharing a meal are examples of just a few of the possible activities. It's the time spent together that's most important! Kinship volunteers can be individuals, couples or families who are able to share time with a youth each week. Click here for the application

In School Mentoring: Adult volunteer mentors can share an hour or more per week right at the school. Volunteers can come to school and be a part of a child's classroom, have lunch with the child, or spend some time together during recess. Click here for the application for in-school mentoring

Peer Mentoring: High school students are matched with a middle-school student to provide friendship, support or academic tutoring as mentors. Mentor and mentee meet at least 30 minutes per week. Mentors will receive one credit for their volunteer work. Click here for the application for peer mentoring

"We are all shaped by the people we meet, but especially by the ones who took the time to love us."
