HOWA FAMILY CENTER AMAZING RACE

2nd Annual AMAZING RACE - Saturday, July 9th

Twelve teams competd in the second annual Amazing Race held in Walker, on Saturday, July 9th.  The competition is a fundraising event for the HOWA Family Center, Northern Cass Kinship Partners, and the Working Together Coalition.  The event brought in around $5,000 for these organizations. Teams competed in either the Competitive or Family Division.

Each leg of the course was followed by a challenge for one or all of the team members to complete.   There were 7 challenges and 4 ‘minute to win it’ events including a canoe and casting challenge sponsored by Walker Rotary, a grocery cart relay sponsored by Super One Foods, the doggy obstacle course sponsored by the Gapinski Family, a fire building challenge, the fireman’s relay sponsored by the Walker Fire Department, a dance line competition sponsored by ‘Just For Kix’,  The Minute to Win It events had participants carry minnows in their mouth, remove junk from their trunk, pass wet sponges with feet, knees and elbows, and a challenge sponsored by the Working Together Coalition using fatal vision goggles.

Prizes included Moondance Jam tickets, sightseeing plane rides, tickets to Northern Lights Casino events, passes to Pirate’s Cove and The Lodge Water Park, movie tickets at Bear Pause Theater, a week-end stay at Chase on the Lake, golfing at Tianna Country Club and Lonbow Golf Course, a pool party with Subway party platter at Walker Country Inn, a week-end stay at BroadWater Lodge or Hyde-Away-Bay, certificates to Mall of America attractions, all day pontoon rental and fishing package at Woman Lake Lodge, $50 gift card to Walker Home Center.

Sue Freeman from 'Just For Kix' taught the teams some dance moves which they needed to perform before a judge in order to move on to their next challenge. Pictured is the Trek North Team of Hannah Allen, Ashley Blevins, Kirsten Rasmussen, Libby Sorenson, Hannah Sorenson	"It Was Just a Small Fire Officer" Challenge. Team 'In It To Win It' finished second in the Family Division with a time of 73 minutes. Teams were challenged to build a small fire that would burn a string hanging between 2 posts.

All competitors received medals and ice cream bars following the Amazing Race. Ice cream was donated by Schwann's.

 

The Amazing Race Course Description Starting at WHA, teams will run a course of 2.5 miles throughout Walker--including 'schoolhouse hill'. Each leg of the course will be followed by a challenge for one or all of the team members to complete. When successfully completed, the team will receive a punch on their passport and will move to the next challenge. The race will end at WHA School. Choose Your Division: Competitive Division: For teams who like the thrill of the race! Family Division: For teams with members 12 and younger who want a more relaxed pace!	Race Fees: $250 per team Teams may raise the entry fee through donations or sponsorships. Registration and entry fee is due by July 1st, 2011. All participants receive tshirts and medals
